Welcome to the “Lusons” tribute website!

Our blog-site exists to document our “Big Trip” adventure and to pay tribute to aspects of our family history.

Next year, 2012, will mark 35 years since my brother and I travelled to Western Australia with our parents to start a new life! Our ‘new life’ didn’t last longer than 18 months before we packed-up & returned to Gosford, NSW.

We plan to return to WA next year on two 35 year old motorbikes in an attempt to revisit every place we stopped at on the original trip. To that end, I bought a 1977 BMW R60/7 and my brother, Droop, got himself a 1977 Honda Goldwing!

Using old Super-8 movie footage that we took on the original journey as a guide, we hope to find as many of the 1977 stop-overs as we can.

Why are we doing this? Well, like any adventure the reasons are numerous and complex – mid-life crisis, a good excuse to ‘get away from it all’, a desire to ‘achieve’ something or something deeper? I don’t think either of us can answer that question honestly, yet! But, as our adventure unfolds I believe our true motivations will be slowly revealed.
